Bio
I have always been a doer. Planning is not my
strong suit; sometimes I just go where life takes me. Growing up was
lots of pickup games of football, basketball and baseball. This was back
in the day when kids were expected to figure out how to have fun on
their own. In high school, my study habits were not great but I was
accepted to go to Carnegie Mellon University. After a few years, the
excessive socializing and bad study habits caught up with me and the CMU
advisors “suggested” I might want to take some time off from school. Since I enjoyed
a computer course I took at CMU, I enrolled in a one-year business
school that taught computer programming. I had found something I loved
doing. I have been writing computer programs, designing application
systems and designing databases ever since.
At CMU, during the excessive socializing period, I
met my wife, Sally. I would like to blame the early departure from CMU
on her but she would keep me honest and not let me get away with that.
After a few years, we married had two children, Theresa and Cary. Life
consisted of trying to balance family life, work and fun. I thoroughly
enjoyed the challenge of raising a family. Early on, we were lucky
enough to meet a group of people who had a common bond of playing
volleyball. We have been socializing for over 30 years now. For fun, I
“played” with a group who enjoyed kayaking on whitewater rivers. Besides
kayaking, we would hike, bike and cross country ski. I don’t get out as
often as I used to but I still enjoy participating in outside
activities.
I
can honestly say I enjoyed each phase of my life yet I would not want to
go back. I enjoy the current phase of my life and look forward to the
next phase. The kids are grown and you would think I would have lots of
free time. But nature abhors a vacuum and playing the role of a
grandparent, church activities, etc. keep me plenty busy. As if I need
more to do, this Tracy Loves Ray thing enters my life.
Glenn and Tracy Loves Ray
Sporadically in life something inside kicks in and
you feel compelled to take an action. So, it was with Tracy Loves Ray.
Why this story? After all, it’s just another one of the thousands of boy
meets girl stories. For some irrational reason, I connected with this
story. After hearing the song a few times, I could envision seeing the
story play out on the big screen. Over the past five or so years,
something has pushed me to make it a reality. Slowly with little baby
steps, it’s happening.
This is so irrational. Let’s look at the facts. I’m
left brained. I typically don’t read fiction (Although, I did enjoy Lord of the
Rings). I hate to write. I had no clue on how get a book or
screenplay published, let alone getting a movie produced. I know the
odds are stacked against creating a best selling book or movie. I can
take solace in that the odds were seemingly insurmountable for Frodo in
Lord of the Rings. Like me, he had no clue on how to proceed. So if he
could do it, why not me? Oh, I forgot that was a novel was fiction. Too
late, I started the journey already. No turning back.
Yes, I
would like to see a successful book and movie to be produced from this
project. Sharing my joy of listening to the song Tracy Loves Ray with others through a book and movie would be wonderful. When the
credits roll, I want people to feel exhiliarated. Oh, yeah, a few tears
of joy wouldn’t be bad. While this would be icing on the cake, I really
believe the most satisfaction is in the journey. I have already
experienced tremendous pleasure in the process of writing the book.
Being part of the discussions between my daughter, Theresa, my son Cary and my wife Sally
has been amazing. Watching the ideas flow and get incorporated in the
book is exciting. As we explain the project to others, their support
is quite invigorating. Bottom line, even if the book is not commercially
successful and a movie is not made, I know the project has already and
will be a positive experience for all involved. If you would like more
details in the process, please check out our Project Journals.
